The inspiration was the way that lesbians were viewed in the 1960s-1980s. “Radical left political animals.” Although I would be honored to be called a radical left political animal, it generalized the lesbian people at a time when they were already completely polarized from the majority of the population that was largely conservative. It drove a further divide between the already divided heterosexuals and homosexuals. When the reality was that a being lesbian at that time, and even now, is political. Our rights and the rights of our transgender friends are always being tossed around court systems and government websites to make it seem like we are something that can be abolished. Lesbians are forever. Queer is forever. We’ll always be here.
